A Year in Review 2014

Tuesday, December 30, 2014

The holidays have passed, the shopping frenzy over and I'm finally getting to my first post.  It's been a while since I've sat for any amount of time in front of my laptop.  You see, after I closed my retail business last summer, I promised many of our close friends and customers that eventually I'd touch base with what I'm up to.  There were lots of hugs, tears and goodbyes as we parted ways and my life began its newest chapter.

2014 was a crazy year for me.  There were goodbyes, hello's, are you kidding me's and much more.  Here's a recap because I know you're dying to know:

In March
We bid mom farewell until we see her again in heaven.   I miss her so much, and
her passing has only made me love life more, thankful that she brought into this world.

In May
We celebrated our college graduate.  Here she is with the love of her life, Derek.

... and I took up running.  No, really.

July and August
My third grand baby was born!  Charlotte (named after mom), was welcomed into the world on July 20th.

I also spent the last few weeks of summer wrapping up things at The Hen House - closing its doors one final time behind me.  Retiring from the store was a difficult decision, but I've learned to lean on my faith, listen to my instincts and meet challenges with grace.

We had some fun times here!

The Hen House during its prime as evidence of those aforementioned fun times...

September
We decompressed with our family in the Caribbean..

Add in some grandkitten recitals and few other odds and ends...

and that pretty much sums up the highlights of my last year.

What were the greatest highlights for you?

Did you have any life learning lessons? (I find no matter how old I get, I'm still learning!)

Do you have big plans for 2015?

  1. What did I learn from last year... well.. that you're never too old to lose weight. To date I've lost 30+ lbs and still working at it. You have to get up every morning and keep trying... no matter how you feel. Take some time to do something just for yourself, even if it's sitting watching the sunset drinking a good cup of coffee.
Plans for 2015...still cleaning out junk and craft stuff to downsize. Have finally solved the itches problem.. call me some time I'll tell you about it and what it limits me to do in my life. Can't garden anymore, or play in the dirt. Love your blog. Thanks for sharing!! Connie

    1. Connie, you're right. We're never too old for ANYTHING! Congratulations on your weight loss. I'm rooting for you! Please do something active for you, Connie, every day. You're worth it! On the craft organization, you should have a Connie Swap Meet! :0) Garden in pots where you can work up high. Although I'm sure lifting the soil could be challenging. <3

  2. 2014 Highlights - really not much, all in all I would say it was a pretty bad year for me, especially when it comes to the hobby that I love so much, scrapbooking. The Hen House closed, Two Peas in a Bucket with its fast forum full of cyber folks to scrap with, and I have been left feeling very alone with no where to go, no one to talk to, no one to create with.... very sad.

Did I have any life learning lessons? Well yes but none of them good, so not wanting to be more of a bummer in this reply I will hold back my comments.

Do I have big plans for 2015? YES, RV-campping and having a wonderful time on each and every trip. Talking lots of photographs in which I will scrapbook (albeit alone), making cards, and just trying to make 2015 a great year in every way!

    1. Maribeth, I'm so sorry to hear that social time around crafting has dwindled for you. I do think it's a bummer. It's a tough market for a lot of companies. Paper takes a lot of space and the margin is tiny. Craft stores and paper companies struggle for this reason. On a more positive note, RV-camping sounds fantastic! We are hoping to take an RV trip with our kids (our oldest and her husband own a large bus-type RV and we will rent one). We plan to drive up the coast visiting Yellowstone and back over to YellowStone and a few other places. The grandkids will have so much fun. Surely it'll be a trip we won't forget. :0) Thanks for staying in touch with me here. :0)
